A Gentler, Non-Chlorine Option for Your Spa: Understanding the Poppit System

If you love using your spa but dislike chemical smells, irritation, or the hassle of traditional sanitising products, there’s another way to keep your water clean. The Poppit system offers a non-chlorine and bromine-free approach to spa care, making it a popular choice for users wanting clearer, softer and more comfortable water.
In this guide, we’ll walk through how Poppit works, why it’s different, and how to maintain it properly.
Why Choose Poppit?
Here are a few of the standout advantages:
-
No chemical odours, meaning a more pleasant spa environment
-
No bromine or chlorine, making it ideal for sensitive skin
-
Asthma friendly and gentle for families
-
Uses hydrogen peroxide to sanitise, then breaks down into water and oxygen
Simply put, Poppit provides effective sanitising while keeping the spa experience clean, fresh and comfortable.

How to Use Poppit: Three Simple Steps
Based on the Poppit method and manufacturer guidance, the system works with a simple three-step process: clear → balance → sanitise.
1. Clear the Water
For new spas or when converting:
-
Remove and clean the filter thoroughly
-
Add Poppit Pipe Degreaser (about 50 mL per 1000 L) and run jets for 30-60 minutes
-
Drain and refill with fresh water
-
Add Poppit Quick Fix or oxidiser and filter for around 4 hours
This removes oils, residue and organic matter that can interfere with sanitising.
2. Balance the Water
Before adding sanitiser, test:
-
pH: around 7.4–7.6
-
Total alkalinity: ~80–120 ppm
-
Calcium hardness: ~100–200 ppm
Adjust with Poppit balancing products until the water is within range. Balanced water helps the system work properly and stops cloudiness or skin irritation.
3. Sanitise and Maintain
Once balanced:
-
Add Poppit Spa Sanitiser (around 1 L per 1000 L of spa water)
-
Test regularly — if the test drop turns brown, the level is correct; if pink, add more sanitiser
-
After heavy use, add Quick Fix and run the filter for about 4 hours
-
Clean pipes and jets every 6–8 weeks to prevent build-up
With routine checks and pipe cleaning, the system is very easy to maintain.

Why Consider Switching?
Poppit is a good option if you:
-
Prefer a spa without chlorine or bromine
-
Want clearer water without strong smells
-
Have family members with sensitive skin or asthma
-
Want a simpler, predictable maintenance routine
For many spa owners, it offers the comfort of clean water without harsh chemicals.
Tips for Best Results
-
Always test first, then dose
-
Keep pumps circulating for several hours a day
-
Clean plumbing regularly — oils and lotions are the main cause of issues in any spa system
