Pre-Delivery Instructions for Your New Spa

by Percy Chan 12 Sep 2024 0 Comments

Bringing home a new spa is exciting, but it requires careful preparation to ensure a smooth, safe, and timely installation. At The Spa Shop, we’re committed to helping you get set up properly. Here’s a comprehensive guide on what to do after purchasing your spa, covering everything from site selection to delivery access.

  1. Understand the Regulations

Before your spa arrives, it's essential to be aware of key regulations:

  • Spa Covers: Most spa pool covers are lockable, and regulations require them to be in place and locked when not in use.
  • Electrical Connection: The electrical setup for your spa is the responsibility of the owner. We recommend consulting an experienced, qualified electrician to ensure all applicable electrical codes are followed. A dedicated circuit is essential to avoid overloading and tripping breakers. Remember, never use an extension cord for your spa. Any damage from incorrect electrical connections is not covered by warranty.

  1. Select the Right Location for Your Spa

Finding the ideal spot for your spa is crucial. Here are some things to consider:

  • Stable and Level Surface: Your spa must be placed on a structurally sound, level surface like a concrete slab, brick surface, or wood deck. Avoid soft surfaces like sand, loose soil, or grass, as they can cause uneven settling and damage to the spa that isn't covered by warranty.
  • Foundation Requirements: A 100mm thick reinforced concrete pad or a timber deck built by a licensed builder is recommended to support the filled spa's weight.
  • Space Around the Spa: Ensure at least 200mm of additional space around the spa for stability. If using a cover lifter, allow 600-700mm clearance from obstacles like walls. If you have limited space, consult us for solutions that require less clearance.
  • Indoor Installation Considerations: If you’re placing your spa indoors, ensure the flooring offers good grip when wet, and consider adequate drainage and ventilation to handle increased humidity.

  1. Prepare the Delivery Path

To facilitate a smooth delivery, ensure the path from the street to the spa location is clear of obstacles. Here are some specific considerations:

  • Height and Width Clearance: Check for low roof eaves, overhanging branches, gutters, or protruding objects like gas meters and electrical boxes. Ensure there is enough clearance for the spa on its delivery cart or slider.
  • Tight Corners and Stairs: If there are tight corners or stairs, please inform us. We might need to remove gates, dismantle fences, or use special equipment.
  • Notify Us About Lifting Requirements: If your spa needs to be lifted over walls, stairs, or onto decks, a crane may be required. This is a common procedure and may involve additional costs.

  1. Document the Delivery Path

To help our team plan the delivery, take photos or a video of the path from the street to the spa’s intended location. This helps us anticipate any challenges and ensure we have the necessary tools. Send these to sales@thespashop.co.nz to help us prepare adequately.

  1. Organize Your Electrical Requirements

Having your electrical wiring in place before delivery speeds up installation. Contact a qualified electrician to set up a dedicated circuit for your spa, and confirm that all wiring complies with local electrical codes. Incorrect electrical setups can lead to delays, additional costs, and potential damage.

  1. Ensure Smooth Delivery Access

Take the following steps to make sure delivery day goes smoothly:

  • Identify the Spa Dimensions: Measure your spa and allow for extra height for the delivery cart.
  • Check All Access Points: Consider doorways, gates, and paths for sufficient width clearance. If the spa must go up or down stairs, ensure that there’s no more than six consecutive steps without a landing.
  • Consider Using a Crane: If access is restricted, a crane may be required. Contact us for a consultation, as 40% of spa deliveries involve a crane.

  1. Contact Us for Any Clarifications

If you’re unsure about any aspect of site preparation or delivery, feel free to reach out to us. We’re here to make your spa delivery and installation process as smooth as possible.

By following these guidelines, you'll ensure a hassle-free experience from delivery to your first soak. For any questions or additional details, don’t hesitate to contact The Spa Shop or Hudson Transport at sales@thespashop.co.nz.

Enjoy your new spa and all the relaxation it brings!
